Ace Combat 8: Live-Action Prequel Mini-Series Hour Zero Debuts

The first episode of Hour Zero, a live-action prequel mini-series for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, is available to stream now on IGN, publisher Bandai Namco announced on Tuesday. The five-minute episode kicks off a four-part rollout with episodes debuting every few days, designed to establish the narrative stakes for the upcoming PlayStation 5 title.

The project marks a significant multimedia push for the flight-simulator franchise, which is stepping up its visual presentation and multiplayer scale for the eighth installment. Rather than relying solely on in-game cutscenes, Bandai Namco is using Hollywood talent to introduce players to the series' fictional universe of Strangereal. "In the series, three strangers survive the opening days of the Republic of Sotoa's invasion of the Federation of Central Usea," the official description reads.

While the live-action treatment is an expensive way to deliver lore, it establishes the setting before players ever sit in the cockpit. Whether players prefer their flight-simulator stories told through live-action drama or traditional in-game briefings, Bandai Namco is making sure the runway is clear.
