Japanese developer PiXEL will bring its retro-inspired shooter Angelian Trigger to the PlayStation 5 in 2027, and for PC via Steam on December 10, 2026, the studio announced. Pushing a 16-bit tribute into the late 2020s is a bold temporal leap, but nostalgic flight has never cared much about the calendar.
Currently, the title is only available on the Nintendo Switch in Japan, where it lacks English language support. Whether the upcoming ports will bridge the language barrier remains unconfirmed. According to the game's Steam listing, translated by Gematsu, the shooter features 24 stages split across Story and Arcade modes, starring two playable characters with distinct arsenals.
"This is a completely new IP game that gives you a sense of speed and exhilaration," the Steam description reads, promising mechanics like multi-target homing lasers and score multipliers for clearing groups.
For players who spent their childhood allowance on pseudo-3D arcade cabinets, the game's aesthetic is a direct nod to classic Sega scaling. Those looking for that specific brand of retro gaming might have to wait a while, but at least the flight path is locked in.
