Pawprint Studio officially launches its free-to-play creature-collecting RPG Aniimo worldwide for PC and consoles on September 16, 2026, although players in some regions, such as North America, may gain access on September 15, 2026, due to time zone differences, bringing its colorful world of Idyll to Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Xbox Game Pass. In a genre where players are perpetually on the hunt for the next pocket-sized phenomenon, the developer is betting that a massive day-one patch is the best way to say hello.

"The moment creature-collecting fans have been waiting for is finally here," wrote Pawprint Studio Executive Producer Jovi Zhang in a September 15, 2026 announcement. The launch marks the end of the game's public beta phase, with the developer thanking its "Pathfinder" community for providing the feedback that shaped the release build. The game lands as part of a busy week of new titles, joining several other notable releases hitting store shelves.
The details
According to Zhang, Pawprint Studio spent the run-up to launch dissecting beta telemetry to overhaul several of the game's core systems. Chief among these is a complete redesign of the Irisalis encounter flow, which governs how players challenge and capture Legendary Aniimo. The studio updated the capture mechanics, the encounter ritual, and general gameplay during these events—a structure the developer says will serve as the template for all future Legendary events. Because nothing kills the thrill of capturing a mythical beast quite like a clunky user interface.
The daily grind has also received a quiet nerf. The studio simplified the game's Held Item System and increased the drop rates for Star Dust, which is used to train and level up creatures. Additionally, progression caps on Aniimo will now unlock naturally as players level up, removing some of the arbitrary stop signs from the training loop.
Beyond the creatures themselves, Pawprint Studio made adjustments to the "Homeland" progression system, adding more interactive elements, activities, and map features to the game's central hub. On the technical side, the studio optimized controls for gamepads and mobile devices—a vital tweak for a game designed to let players twine with over 200 different creatures across multiple platforms.
The launch version features a roster of over 200 catchable creatures scattered across various biomes, influenced by in-game weather, time of day, and environmental phenomena. Players can capture these creatures using "Aniipods," set traps, and "twine" with them to use their unique traversal abilities in the open world.
The creature-catching market is notoriously crowded, with newcomers constantly vying for the attention of players who have spent decades memorizing elemental type charts. By launching directly into Xbox Game Pass with a launch-day build heavily influenced by beta players, Pawprint Studio is hoping to bypass the usual rocky first-week period that tends to plague modern live-service launches. It is an ambitious attempt to smooth out the road before players even turn the key.
