Netmarble Neo is developing Bloomwalker, a cozy crafting adventure coming to Xbox Series X|S and PC, project director Deokbin Lim announced on Thursday. In a genre usually obsessed with hitting rocks until you can build a slightly better rock, this one focuses on cleaning up an ecological mess with a house that walks.
Writing on the official Xbox Wire, Lim detailed the game's setting of Luminoa, a world where pollution has driven natural guardians mad and threatened small nature spirits called "higgledies." Rather than conquering the landscape or fending off starvation meters, players are tasked with restoring sanctuaries and scrubbing away the corruption. It is a gentler take on the post-collapse wilderness, swapping the typical shotgun-and-shelter loop for a giant, mobile home base.
The details
The heart of the journey is a moving house that serves as both a customizable base and a travel companion. According to Lim, the house expands and gains new functions as players venture deeper into Luminoa to cleanse sanctuaries. When players need a break from the wilderness, the front door opens into a customizable "Pocket Dimension" where they can build structures, arrange facilities, craft tools, and decorate their living space alongside companion Familiars and Higgledies.
Instead of the high-stress resource scarcity that defines modern survival-crafting titles, Bloomwalker centers on ecological restoration. Players purify corrupted monsters and land rather than destroying them, returning color and nature spirits to the world. Lim noted that while the cleansing process can be "tense in the moment," the ultimate goal is to offer a relaxing experience focused on rebuilding and cooperative crafting.
Survival-crafting games have spent years leaning into bleak, punishing environments where players fight both the elements and each other. By pivoting to a non-combative, restorative loop, Netmarble Neo is aiming at the growing cozy-gaming audience that prefers tidying up virtual spaces over defending them. Whether a traveling house can clean up a whole continent remains to be seen, but it beats eating raw berries in a dirt hole.
How do you feel about Bloomwalker's focus on cleaning up a world instead of fighting it?
