The game, which normally carries a $20 price tag, offers a color-matching spin on traditional 1v1 brawling. For players whose digital libraries function more as a digital museum of unplayed games, a zero-dollar entry fee is a low-risk acquisition.

According to the developer, players in Crystal Crisis "attack by arranging falling crystals and clearing them from the screen." Rather than memorizing frame data or mastering complex stick inputs, combatants clear Tetris-like puzzles to build up energy for offensive moves. The roster features characters like Astro Boy and Black Jack, fighting across unique stages with dedicated music and voice-acted lines.
