Capcom is launching the Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen gameplay expansion later this year, introducing a new region, a new storyline, and 12 dungeons to the RPG. The expansion will also bring the game to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, the publisher announced.

But here is the part that might change how you play: before the expansion even arrives, Capcom says it is rolling out free base game updates. These updates will add options like infinite fast travel, though the publisher confirmed it won't completely remove the game's mechanical friction.

And for the players who have been asking for a bit more companionship on the road? The expansion is also bringing highly requested features to the game, including the option to high-five your Pawns on command.

The details

  • New expansion: Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen
  • Key features: A new region, a new storyline, 12 dungeons, and Pawn high-fives on command
  • Platform addition: Nintendo Switch 2 (launching later this year)
  • Free updates: Infinite fast travel option coming to the base game ahead of the expansion

Here's the thing

Expanding a massive RPG is always a balancing act, especially with travel mechanics. By offering a new region alongside quality-of-life updates like infinite fast travel options, Capcom is providing players with adjustments to how they navigate the game. Adding a new platform launch also broadens the audience as the game's ecosystem expands.
