Sony Interactive Entertainment has released Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition on PlayStation 5, marking exactly one year since the action-adventure game first launched. It's a massive milestone for a world that pulled us into the dark, atmospheric beauty of feudal Japan, and it brings a ton of new content to sink our teeth into.

In an interview published on the PlayStation Blog, Erika Ishii, the voice and performance actor behind the protagonist Atsu, opened up about returning to the character for the new expansion, Echoes of Sekigahara.
The Complete Edition bundles the original campaign with the Ghost of Yōtei Legends multiplayer mode and two brand-new additions: the "Most Wanted" roguelike mode and the story expansion. For Ishii, stepping back into Atsu’s tabi boots meant digging into some highly anticipated lore.
The details
According to Ishii, the dialogue for the Echoes of Sekigahara expansion was recorded a couple of months after the main game's production wrapped. She revealed that she actively schemed with the expansion's writer, Courtney Woods, to explore Atsu's personal attachments and past romantic life, which was briefly hinted at during the base game’s onsen scenes.
Ishii noted that playing the finished game during production helped her reconnect with the character. When it came to recording the flashback sequences, she relied on establishing a deep "prior moment" for young Atsu to properly capture how those formative experiences shaped her present-day personality.
The "Most Wanted" roguelike mode introduces a shift in tone. Ishii confirmed she recorded new dialogue for the mode, describing its atmosphere as "more mystical" and "mythological" compared to the main campaign.
Crucially, the roguelike features the return of Jin, voiced once again by Daisaku Tsuji. Although Ishii and Tsuji did not record their lines together, Ishii shared that they have connected in person to compare notes on carrying the "Ghost torch." Reflecting on her four-year journey bringing Atsu to life, Ishii called the experience bittersweet but described it as the realization of a long-held career dream.
The release of the Complete Edition consolidates all Ghost of Yōtei content into a single package one year after its initial release. By adding both a roguelike mode and a lore-heavy expansion, the release expands on the mechanical and narrative foundations of the franchise while bringing back key actors to bridge the gap between past and present characters.
