Edge magazine's cover story puts numbers to Leonida's scale, while a storage tracker puts a 210 GB dent in your SSD three weeks before launch.
The short version
Edge magazine's GTA 6 cover story reveals the state of Leonida is almost as big as GTA IV, GTA V, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined, with an order of magnitude more interiors and about 600,000 NPC animations, while a storage tracker pegs the PS5 install at 210 GB ahead of November 12 pre-loads.

Edge magazine's new cover story on Grand Theft Auto 6 — built on a visit to Rockstar North in Edinburgh — has put the first hard numbers to the game's scale, as reported by PC Gamer. The state of Leonida is said to be almost as big as the maps of Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto V, and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined — less an iteration, more a regional expansion.
"You can go anywhere, any random location, and so many people have thought about that location," Rockstar co-studio head Aaron Garbut told Edge, adding that the game contains "an order of magnitude more interiors" than the studio's previous work, turning decorative facades into places players can actually enter.
The details
Populating that landmass takes crowd simulation at matching scale. Per Edge, Rockstar art-directed every NPC across roughly 600,000 animations, and districts carry their own demographic and professional textures rather than generic ambient crowds. Pedestrians track their own temperament and history with the player. "Who's going to be aggressive? How many are going to test me?" is how Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson describes the design question behind every street.
All of that comes with a hardware tax. The widely followed PlayStation Game Size tracker pegs the PS5 install at 210 GB — a figure that could grow once online functionality arrives — meaning the three weeks between pre-load and launch double as drive-cleaning season.
Grand Theft Auto launches set the technical bar for a console cycle, and the Edge numbers show where this one is aimed: a map bigger than three past blockbusters stitched together, interiors everywhere, and crowds that remember you. The 210 GB asks players to clear roughly a fifth of a standard PS5's usable storage — the first sacrifice Leonida demands, three weeks before anyone sets foot in it.
