What it means for the meta
Riot is shifting focus back to solo queue stability for the final stretch of the 2026 ranked season.
Riot Games is adjusting 28 champions in Patch 26.21, scheduled to release next week as one of the final four updates for League of Legends in 2026. After spending the previous update tuning the game for tournament play, the studio is turning its balance levers back to the solo queue ladder.
Lead gameplay designer Matt 'Phroxzon' Leung-Harrison confirmed the shift, noting that the patch aims to stabilize the ranked environment before the season closes.
"This patch, we’re trying to strike a good balance between preserving strengths of champions, while redistributing power budget for champions," Leung-Harrison said.
The studio is giving breathing room to mages like Azir, Orianna, and Ryze, whose win rates were suppressed during pro play tuning, while making mana usage more costly on champions like Locke. High-performing picks such as Yasuo and Yone are on the nerf list following strong item synergy with Shieldbow, alongside utility updates for Taric and Twisted Fate that allow their abilities to function on untargetable targets.
The details
With four patches left on the calendar this year, ranked players have a short window to adjust before the ladder resets.
