Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back Announced for PS5
A cult-classic zombie-slaying franchise returns under a new developer, though one of the original's key creative minds will be sitting this one out.

Dragami Games, Nada Holdings, and the PlayStation Blog have officially announced Lollipop Chainsaw 2 Back2Back, a sequel to the 2012 action game set to launch on the PlayStation 5 in 2027. Revealed at Tokyo Game Show 2026, the announcement formalizes what was previously teased as a simple demo appearance. It seems the cheerleading chainsaw show is going on, even if the guest list behind the scenes looks a bit different this time around.
JP Universe is developing the sequel, according to the announcement. The studio, founded in 2022 by Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata as JP Games, takes over development duties while Dragami Games and Nada Holdings handle publishing.
On the creative side, original co-writer Masahiro Yuki is returning to pen the script, alongside returning character designer and artist NekoshowguN. However, filmmaker James Gunn, who co-wrote the original 2012 game, will not be returning for the sequel.
The original Lollipop Chainsaw debuted in 2012 for the PS3 and Xbox 360 as a collaboration between Grasshopper Manufacture's Suda51 and Gunn. The franchise recently resurfaced with the remaster Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, which launched in September 2024 for Switch, PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC, before arriving on PS4 and Xbox One in December 2024, and the Switch 2 in May 2026.
