Amanita Design has announced Machinarium 2 is officially in development for PC, bringing the hand-drawn mechanical world back for a second outing. No release date has been announced for the sequel, which will launch on Steam.
"The time has come for a sequel to Amanita Design’s adventure classic," the studio announced on the game's Steam page, marking a return to the silent, rusty universe. The story picks up after Josef and Berta escape the city of Machinarium, only to crash-land in the barrens and stumble upon a hidden valley. The valley is home to two distinct robot tribes—one high in a cliffside monastery and the other in a city below—both of which are running dangerously low on power.
The sequel shifts the formula by letting players control both Josef and Berta directly using a gamepad. Players can switch between the two characters freely, combining their unique individual abilities to solve puzzles. Like the first game, communication remains entirely non-verbal, using animated thought bubbles, symbols, and gestures instead of text.
The details
With no release window currently attached to the project, players eager to power up this new valley will just have to keep their eyes on the horizon.
