Tripwire Interactive is bringing its predatory "ShaRkPG" formula back to dry land—or at least the immediate shorelines of it—with Maneater 2, scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 in 2027. Because if the original game proved anything, it is that nothing says "unwind after a long week" quite like chewing through an exclusive crowd of bio-hacking tourists.

The announcement, which debuted during Sony’s State of Play, was detailed by Tripwire Interactive’s Digital Marketing Manager Mason Moreau on the official PlayStation Blog. The sequel is currently in development by Tripwire and Demiurge Studios, aiming to scale up the original's chaotic aquatic sandbox.
The details
The sequel trades the open bayous of the first game for Neptune’s Kingdom, an ultra-luxury private island theme park. Described by CEO Victor Reardon as an "exclusive gateway to the grandeur of Ancient Rome," the location combines Las Vegas-style excess with Anaheim-style whimsy. It is a highly engineered venture designed to push technological, natural, and ethical boundaries—and our new protagonist, a bull shark swimming completely unattended, is about to test those boundaries from the inside.
To keep things interesting, the park's advanced Marine Research division has used hasty bioengineering to alter the tropical climate, creating artificial biomes that range from arctic to volcanic. These loose genetic guidelines have also triggered mutations in the local fauna, leading to reports of crabs "the size of their G-Wagon." This means the shark’s path to freedom will involve fighting off both high-tech submersible human threats and highly evolved apex predators.
As the first game in the series built on Unreal Engine 5, the sequel is aiming for a much higher level of environmental fidelity. Tripwire states that the engine upgrade allows for realistic light diffusion through the water and enhanced NPC behaviors. These upgrades should ensure that the parkgoers fueled by green juice and peptides scatter with realistic panic when the shark joins the buffet.
Chris Parnell is also confirmed to return as the voice of Trip Westhaven, providing his signature one-sided color commentary as you explore, eat, and evolve.
The original Maneater carved out a distinct niche in 2020 by turning its shark-themed premise into a successful open-world action-RPG. By moving the sequel from natural waterways to a highly dense, corporate-controlled theme park, Tripwire is attempting to test how far it can push physics-based environmental chaos. Utilizing current-generation hardware allows the developers to simulate more complex, reactive ecosystems, shifting the game from a simple feeding frenzy into a much larger, highly reactive sandbox.
