What it means for the meta
Insomniac is toning down the highly mocked tracking visuals while investigating a full toggle option for a future update.
Insomniac Games has rolled out hotfix version 01.001.005 for Marvel's Wolverine, dialing down the visibility of the bright blue scent trails used for navigation and collectible hunting. It turns out having the world's greatest tracker follow a glowing neon mist—which players promptly labeled "fart gas" across social media—was a bit more distracting than intended.
The developer confirmed the change in an official patch blog post, stating it "continues to evaluate ways to further improve senses." According to Insomniac, the studio is also exploring a toggle to turn the visual indicators off entirely in a future update. Along with the visual tweak, the hotfix tones down the game's audio sense indicators and addresses crash issues that were affecting a small percentage of players.
The quick adjustment arrives as the game finds its footing. While Sony has not yet released official sales numbers, early estimates place launch sales at 1.9 million copies, bringing in roughly $130 million (£97 million) in revenue. Interestingly, physical sales accounted for 22.9 percent of that total, a lower share than the 35 percent achieved by the studio's previous release, Marvel's Spider-Man 2.
For a title that met with mixed reviews at launch—including Eurogamer's critique pointing to an outdated design structure—the hotfix marks a rapid attempt to smooth out early friction. Players keeping track of the game's ongoing improvements can read about Insomniac's wider post-launch updates as the developer continues to refine Logan's adventure.
