Konami has revealed the official performance metrics for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. On PlayStation 5, both main titles will run at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second. It is the standard modern benchmark, smooth enough to make sneaking around in a cardboard box look majestic; for older hardware, however, the stealth action is going to feel a bit more deliberate.

According to the publisher, the Nintendo Switch 2 edition of the collection will run Metal Gear Solid 4 at 1440p and 60fps, while Peace Walker will render at 1080p and 60fps. Meanwhile, players on the original Nintendo Switch will find their performance capped at a maximum of 30fps for both games. For a hybrid console that has spent years pulling off impressive technical compromises, running a complex cell-processor era title like MGS4 at full speed appears to be where the line is finally drawn, especially as original Nintendo Switch hardware continues to show its age.
The details
Performance metrics are the primary benchmark for remaster collections, where the main appeal is experiencing classic games without the technical hurdles of their original eras. While modern platforms and newer hardware editions receive the expected high-performance treatment, the 30fps cap on the original Switch highlights the growing gap between generations and the compromises required to keep older portable hardware in the rotation.
