Landfall and Aggro Crab have released "The Final Ascent," the final major content update planned for their collaborative platformer PEAK. For a game entirely focused on climbing, reaching the literal summit of the post-launch roadmap is a fitting way to pack up the gear. According to the developers, this release marks the end of active major development on the title.
A collaborative project between two distinct indie studios is always a delicate balancing act, usually akin to finishing a group slide presentation where everyone actually showed up to do their part. With this final injection of content, the studios are leaving players with a completed mountain range to explore while both teams redirect their focus to their respective solo pipelines.
The update's centerpiece is a pair of new variant biomes: Gloom and The Citadel. The Gloom biome introduces a heavy fog effect that reduces visibility, forcing players to navigate through massive climbable trees. To reward those who make it through the mist, the patch also introduces several new unlockable cosmetics and badges, including the Well Rested, Exorcist, and Bellringer badges.
The details
With the final flags planted and the map fully drawn, players are left with a complete mountain—and two studios ready to find their next separate slopes to climb.
