Pikmin 4: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition Announced for November

Watch

Pikmin 4: Nintendo Switch Edition + Dandori Academy will launch physically and digitally on November 12, Nintendo announced. Because if there is one thing next-generation processing power was built for, it is yelling voice commands at a fictional cartoon dog.

The upgraded version will offer a $9.99 digital upgrade path on the eShop for players who already own the 2023 original.

The details

  • Release date: November 12, 2026
  • Price: $9.99 upgrade for existing owners on the eShop
  • New features: Microphone voice commands for Oatchi, Dandori Academy challenge mode
  • Performance: No visual or frame-rate improvements have been confirmed by Nintendo

What changes

The primary draws for returning players are the fresh mechanics and modes. The voice command feature utilizes the Switch 2's built-in microphone, allowing players to verbally issue commands and offer praise to the rescue pup, Oatchi. Finally, your household can hear you congratulate a digital animal on a job well done.

For those looking for a sterner test of efficiency, the new Dandori Academy mode introduces timed challenges across multiple difficulty levels. Players must plot the most efficient pathing and calculate the exact number of Pikmin required to recover treasures under tight time constraints. The mode will also feature 72 weekly exams, which players can take once between Friday and Sunday, alongside global and friend-based leaderboards.

Why now

This upgrade follows a growing trend of "Switch 2 Editions" for existing titles, which Nintendo has used to bolster the system's library. While other franchises are releasing entirely new next-gen entries, like the recently announced Kirby and the World Beyond, the Pikmin series is being updated in the current generation.

Notably, Nintendo has not confirmed whether Pikmin 4's visuals or frame rates will receive any upgrades on the new system, leaving the focus squarely on the added content. With a full decade having passed between the third and fourth mainline entries, the series is receiving an update with new features instead.

Pikmin enthusiasts have seen long gaps between game's releases, making updates like these noteworthy.
