What it means for the meta
This is Pokopia's first Halloween event, utilizing a scare-based currency mechanic to distribute seasonal cosmetics before the second DLC launches later this year.
Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have announced the first autumn celebration for Pokémon Pokopia, scheduled to run from October 17 to November 1. Titled "Pumpkaboo's Sweet Surprises," the limited-time event introduces new creatures, decorative items, and a dedicated progression system. The game is swapping out its summer pool party theme for something a bit more active, requiring players to engage in light neighborhood jump-scaring to earn their rewards.

The event schedule and gameplay details were officially confirmed by Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, marking the second major seasonal update for the game since its worldwide release. According to Nintendo, the life simulator surpassed five million units sold in its first five months post-launch, following a summer-themed event centered around Feebas and Milotic.
The details
To participate, players must first locate and speak to Pumpkaboo to initiate the holiday festivities. The core loop of the event revolves around collecting Pumpkin Candy, a temporary currency that can be exchanged for limited-time decorations. Some of the upcoming items showcased include Pikachu-shaped Jack-O'-Lanterns and Ghost-type balloon statues.
Earning this currency requires players to use the move Camouflage, which can be learned from Zorua at Bleak Beach. Players use the move to disguise themselves as furniture and items to startle other Pokémon in their world, who will then yield Pumpkin Candy. A new habitat will also become available during the event, allowing players to permanently befriend Gourgeist once the appropriate Halloween furniture is set up in their world.
The event is localized to specific regions. Nintendo confirmed that the Halloween activities will not appear in the Cloud Islands or the Bubbly Basin DLC regions, meaning players must stick to their main towns to participate.
Beyond the spooky season, the roadmap for the title points toward several upcoming expansions. A second DLC package scheduled for later in 2026 will introduce Doduo, Snubbull, Skitty, and Braixen, alongside a new dress-up feature that allows Pokémon to wear cosmetic hats and bow ties. A third, town-focused DLC is also currently slated for 2027.
With five million units moved in its opening months, maintaining player engagement through seasonal drops is a standard playbook for life-simulation titles. Bringing in Pumpkaboo and Gourgeist gives early adopters a reason to log back in, establishing a seasonal cadence ahead of the larger paid expansions mapped out through 2027.
