Sony Interactive Entertainment and Crunchyroll will launch a dedicated anime hub directly on the PlayStation 5 home screen in spring 2027, the companies announced. For a dashboard that already manages a shifting gallery of games, system notifications, and store links, the addition of a permanent corporate roommate feels like the next logical lease agreement.

The new destination will bring together streaming media, anime-inspired games, and direct access to the standard Crunchyroll application in one unified interface. It is a direct play to capitalize on overlapping fandoms, turning the console's central UI into a bridge between active play and passive watching.

“From Crunchyroll membership on PlayStation, to the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series,” said Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini in a press release, “Today, we take that partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment one step further with an anime hub on PlayStation. Serving fans means meeting them where they already are.”

According to the companies, the hub is designed to make it easier to discover content, whether users are longtime followers or players who stumbled into a franchise through a game adaptation. It reflects Sony's ongoing effort to tie its various entertainment wings closer together, ensuring that when you finish playing a game, you don't have to wander too far to watch the show.

The details

  • Launch window: Spring 2027
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5
  • Included content: Curated anime-inspired games, direct Crunchyroll app access, and media highlights

Whether players prefer a minimalist dashboard or enjoy having their media curated for them, the real estate on the home screen belongs to Sony. Come 2027, it's getting a bit more colorful.
