Rayman Legends Retold Adds Free Astro Bot Costume on PS5

Seeing Rayman trade his classic neck-scarf aesthetic for glowing blue LED eyes and shiny chrome plating is the exact kind of whimsical chaotic energy I live for. Ubisoft and Team Asobi have officially revealed that Rayman Legends Retold will include a free PlayStation 5-exclusive Astro Bot outfit when the title arrives on December 3, 2026.

According to Ubisoft, the costume will be available at no extra cost on a player's very first visit to Victor Velour, the resident tailor shop owner inside the game. The release brings the two platforming icons full circle following Rayman's cameo appearance in 2024's Astro Bot.

How the suit was crafted

The exclusive skin was developed as a joint collaboration between Ubisoft Milan, Ubisoft Montpellier, and Team Asobi. Bringing a glossy, robotic character into a world built around handcrafted, painterly visuals presented unique artistic hurdles for the character team.

"One of the biggest challenges was bringing Astro Bot’s sleek, futuristic aesthetic into Rayman’s universe," Quentin Chaillet, Lead Character Artist on the project, said. "Rayman’s designs traditionally have a more handcrafted, organic feel, so introducing these glossy surfaces, metallic details, and high-tech materials was something quite different from what we’re used to."

Chaillet noted that the team focused on preserving Rayman's distinct silhouette—including his floating hands, lack of arms and legs, large nose, and oversized shoes—while mapping Astro Bot's reflective metallic plating and glowing blue accent lighting onto the character model.

Guillaume Arvieu, Art and World Director on Rayman Legends Retold, explained that both series prioritize fluid movement and environmental variety. "Both games offer incredibly rich fantasy worlds, filled with diverse biomes that invite players to explore, discover, and experience a sense of wonder," Arvieu stated, citing a shared focus on creative platforming mechanics.

What is new in Retold

Beyond character cosmetics, Rayman Legends Retold is designed as a comprehensive update to the original 2013 platformer. Ubisoft confirmed the title features enhanced visual assets, a retold narrative framework, a brand-new mysterious realm to explore, and newly composed musical stages.

And yes, I am SO ready to lose my mind trying to time jumps to new rhythm tracks all over again.

The details

  • Release Date: December 3, 2026
  • Platforms: Rayman Legends Retold is scheduled for release on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
  • Costume Price: Free (unlocked at Victor Velour's shop on first visit)
  • Multiplayer: Local couch co-op for up to 4 players
  • New Features: Retold story, visual upgrades, new realm, new musical levels

Why it matters

The crossover marks an ongoing creative partnership between Ubisoft and Sony's Team Asobi studio, establishing a direct exchange of character cameos between the two franchises. By releasing the costume as a free PS5-exclusive bonus at launch, both studios are using the collaboration to celebrate platforming heritage across different console generations.
