Shifting gears on muscle memory, Milestone's latest update lets players steer and slide with a single stick instead of wrestling with the original twin-stick layout.
The short version
Milestone has released a new patch for Screamer that adds a traditional single-stick drift option. The update aims to make the arcade racer more accessible to players struggling with the game's default twin-stick control layout.

TL;DR — what matters
• Added a traditional single-stick drift option to the menus
• Adjusted character unlocking requirements and competitor powers
• Moved an invisible wall that blocked a shortcut on one track
Single-stick drifting option — Toggle added to options menu for players who prefer traditional arcade racing controls.
Competitor power balance — Adjusted the on-track powers of various competitors.
Character unlocking — Tweaked the requirements for unlocking certain characters.
Track collision fix — Moved an invisible wall blocking a shortcut on one track.
What it means for the meta
The update makes the arcade racer much more approachable for casual players, though the director still recommends the twin-stick system for the intended experience.
Arcade racer Screamer is giving players a way to drift without doing finger gymnastics, introducing a traditional single-stick control option in its latest update. Developer Milestone rolled out the patch to address feedback surrounding the game's mandatory twin-stick handling.
While the original dual-analog setup remains the intended experience, the studio is offering an alternative for those who prefer not to reprogram years of driving-game instincts. "But we understand that the unique twin stick controls might feel weird on their first few uses, so we decided to add this new option for players who prefer to start with something more familiar," game director Federico Cardini wrote in the patch notes. Cardini added that "Twin Stick is still the recommended way to enjoy the game at its fullest since the ECHO System has been designed around that."
Beyond the steering adjustments, the patch also sweeps up some other loose bolts. Milestone removed what it described as "unnecessary suspension lines" and adjusted how the game detects preferred default camera distances. It also tweaked character unlocking requirements, rebalanced on-track competitor powers, and relocated an invisible wall situated next to a shortcut. For racers looking for a change of pace, the update lands just as competition heats up in the genre following the launch of Star Wars: Galactic Racer.
The details
You can now take the corners however your thumbs see fit, even if the director still gently suggests you do it the hard way.
Will you stick to twin sticks or switch to single-stick drifting?
