What it means for the meta

Nintendo and Velan Studios have released a free Version 1.2.0 update for Star Fox on the Nintendo Switch 2, introducing four-player split-screen multiplayer and three new Battle Mode stages. The update, which follows its announcement during the September Direct broadcast, is now live.
According to the official patch notes on Nintendo's support page, the update delivers a mix of classic local play and a long list of technical tune-ups. Up to four players can now crowd around a single Nintendo Switch 2 console, provided they each have a controller and a willingness to share a screen. The patch also introduces three new Battle Mode arenas—Katina, Sector X, and Venom—along with team queuing for random online matches.
Away from the multiplayer lobby, the update adds a confirmation dialog for players selecting "Abandon Campaign" after a game over, saving users from accidental restarts. Nintendo has also adjusted the color of the Bolse Core's weak point and tweaked visual cues to make boss damage clearer.
The details
In addition to these gameplay changes, the update resolves several bugs, including progress-blocking freezes when defeating certain bosses like Bacoon in Aquas or Gorgon in Area 6, and a scoring glitch that failed to calculate scores correctly once they exceeded 1200 points.
The Version 1.2.0 update is currently available for download on all Nintendo Switch 2 systems.
