Star Wars Battlefront 3 Reportedly in the Works at Respawn and DICE

Respawn and DICE are reportedly working together on a new Star Wars Battlefront, with multiple sources telling Variety it's Battlefront 3, per Push Square. EA hasn't named the game, and neither EA nor Disney has announced it.

The one on-record line comes from EA's October 21 staff memo from executives Cam Weber and David Tinson: "We'll be bringing together our Respawn and DICE studios to collaborate on a future project." That's the same memo that closed BioWare, ended the next Mass Effect and kept Star Wars Jedi 3 on track, alongside about 400 layoffs. A collaboration announced in a layoff memo is, at minimum, the good news paragraph.

The report follows rumors earlier in the week that Lucasfilm had been talking to Bungie about a new Battlefront, with DICE also floated as a returning developer. Respawn makes Apex Legends and the Star Wars Jedi games; DICE made 2015's Star Wars Battlefront and 2017's Battlefront II, and a third entry had reportedly been shelved several years ago, according to GamesRadar.

What happened with Battlefront II?

DICE's Battlefront II launched in 2017 to a mixed reception, largely over loot boxes that sold gameplay-affecting upgrades, which drew heavy player backlash and regulator attention in several countries. DICE later reworked progression, removed paid loot boxes and supported the game until its final major update in 2020. It has had a second life since, setting new player records on PS4 as recently as 2025, Push Square notes.

The last Battlefront is nine years old and still finding players. Its sequel, for now, is a line in a memo.
