Until Dawn 2 Set for January 2027 Launch on PS5

Sony is sending a new batch of horror-prone characters into the grinder. Until Dawn 2 will officially launch on PlayStation 5 on January 28, 2027, bringing back the franchise's choice-driven tension with a brand-new cast of internet-famous targets.

The announcement came from Firesprite Games creative director Stu Tilley on the PlayStation Blog, revealing that the studio is co-developing the sequel alongside AdHoc Studio. This time, the narrative trade winds blow away from cold mountain cabins. Instead, players will guide "Dead True," a team of fake ghost-hunting YouTubers, through a remote, abandoned South Pacific resort on Akishima Island. Dr. Hill, the unsettling meta-therapist played by Peter Stormare, is also returning to judge your poor decision-making, proving that some habits are simply too hard to break.

What is the story?

According to the studio, the plot kicks off with the Dead True crew shooting a retrospective episode at Blackwood Sanitorium—the site of the original game's tragic events 12 years prior. After a run-in with a scarred survivor named Yoona, the crew is lured to Akishima Island, a landmass abandoned since a luxury resort mysteriously shut down in the 1970s.

Players will control eight different characters, navigating fraught relationships and highly questionable career choices. In one sequence highlighted by the developers, co-host Mina is pressured by her network to perform a live, on-camera ritual sacrifice. Players must choose whether to sacrifice the team's plucky companion chicken or risk Mina's own blood instead—making it a high-stakes group project where the grade is survival.

Pre-orders for both the Standard and Digital Deluxe Editions open on September 10, 2026. Securing either version early unlocks Dr. Hill-themed bonuses, including an Until Dawn classic outfit, an Akishima Island holiday outfit, and in-game collector bobbleheads of the doctor to discover.
