About the Game
Step back to August 10, 1987. In Japan, a new challenger entered the ring for the Famicom: Saint Seiya: Ōgon Densetsu.
This wasn't just another game; it was a digital translation of a phenomenon. The Saint Seiya manga, and its subsequent anime adaptation, had captured imaginations across Japan, following a group of young warriors who drew power from the "Cosmos" within them and wore mystical "Cloths" representing constellations. Ōgon Densetsu, meaning "Golden Legend," aimed to bring that cosmic battle to players.
Developed by an uncredited team and published by Bandai, the game put players in control of the heroic Bronze Saints, facing off against formidable foes. It was a turn-based fighting game, a far cry from the flashy action of the anime, but it allowed players to strategize their Saint's movements and unleash their signature "Saint Techniques." The game's arrival on the Famicom, the dominant console of the era, meant this universe was now accessible in homes, extending the reach of the Saint Seiya saga.
For those who owned the Famicom and followed the series, August 10, 1987, was the day they could finally command Seiya and his companions, trying to protect Athena and the Earth from the shadows. It was a chance to live out the legend, one turn-based battle at a time.
