IO Interactive is launching a free DLC update for 007 First Light on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the developer announced on Tuesday. For a modern blockbuster, a post-launch content drop that does not immediately ask for a credit card number is a refreshing deviation from the standard industry script.

"A free DLC is just around the bend," the studio shared on its official social channels alongside a brief teaser video. While the developer has kept the exact contents of the update under wraps, the game's main menu has prominently featured a locked placeholder for an Aston Martin Valhalla update since the title launched on May 27, 2026.
The Aston Martin Valhalla featured heavily in a massive set piece near the end of the main campaign. Given the length of time players have waited, the update is anticipated to include a dedicated TacSim mission utilizing the vehicle, though the community also expects other additions from the developer's broader roadmap, such as a New Game+ mode, new gadgets, and additional tactical challenges.
The details
While this week's drop is free, IO Interactive is also planning a larger, premium expansion. The studio has previously confirmed a story-focused DLC centered around Bawama, a pirate king warlord played by Lenny Kravitz. That premium add-on does not currently have a firm release date, but it is expected to require a separate purchase.
Meanwhile, players hoping to experience the espionage on Nintendo's next platform will have to wait quite a bit longer. Earlier this year, the game's Nintendo Switch 2 port was delayed to March 2027 to ensure the conversion met quality expectations, leaving handheld agents temporarily benched.
IO Interactive has a well-documented history of long-term post-launch support, having actively updated its Hitman trilogy for several years after release. Applying that same live-service endurance to the James Bond franchise suggests a long runway for the current game, even as fans look ahead.
Even without an endless stream of updates, 007 First Light has already established its footing as a commercial heavyweight. The game sold 4 million copies within its first three months on shelves. While sequels are expected to eventually materialize, this free content ensures players have a reason to stay in the field while the next major installment is quietly drafted.
What are you hoping to see most in the free 007 First Light update?
