Embark Studios has announced a four-day free-to-play trial for its extraction shooter Arc Raiders, running from October 8 at 5 a.m. ET until October 12 at 4 a.m. ET. According to the studio's official schedule, the time-limited trial will be available on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, giving players complete access to the game. For players who prefer a different experience, Embark is also preparing a PvE matchmaking beta test, running from October 13 to October 20, 2026, designed to deliver the cooperative matchmaking experience that players have been requesting.

Look, there is nothing quite like the spine-chilling panic of hearing a massive mechanical sentinel clanking through ruins while your squad scrambles for scrap in the dark. It is stressful and beautiful, showcasing a dramatic post-apocalyptic setting. Now, Embark is opening the gates so everyone can experience that tension without spending a dime.
The free-to-play weekend arrives at a transition point for Arc Raiders. While the game still maintains an active player base, concurrent player numbers have dropped significantly since its launch. Aligning the free trial with a major content drop aims to bring players back to the wasteland.
The details
The free trial directly coincides with the launch of the Frozen Trail update on October 8. This update introduces a new map, a fresh Battle Pass, and a frigate patrol vessel. Players will also encounter several new enemies and challenges, alongside new weapon mods, weapon skins, and a camera gadget.
For players who prefer a different experience, Embark is also preparing a PvE matchmaking beta test. Set to become available from October 13 to October 20, 2026, this mode is designed to deliver the cooperative matchmaking experience that players have been requesting.
Opening the doors for a free trial always carries some risk, especially for a competitive shooter. While Embark Studios has put significant effort into keeping cheaters at bay, maintaining control over the game's cheating problem has proved difficult.
The Frozen Trail update is not expected to include additional anti-cheat measures. As a result, the studio's existing security systems will bear the full weight of the player influx during the free-to-play weekend.
The trial offers a direct look at the game's new direction, whether you are looking to explore its environments or engage in combat with your squad.
