Pearl Abyss bills the Great Ocean of Pywel as "a new region to explore (above and below water!), with its own storyline," per Gematsu, alongside a six-minute features overview trailer. The studio pushed the release back to deliver "a more polished, stable experience," according to Gfinity.
It's also the first time Crimson Desert's new content comes with a price tag. The open-world game launched March 19, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and its updates so far have been free.
The details
Players gather resources to build and customize a ship, sail to unexplored islands, fight enemy forces and set up strongholds with their Greymane comrades. Below the surface, a diving suit opens up the ocean floor and its treasure-filled ruins, and Push Square notes you can hitch a ride by holding onto a whale's fin. GamesRadar adds stingrays, turtles and orcas to the list of things you can ride.
Earning certain characters' trust opens up romance and eventually marriage, and close companions can visit the Greymane Camp. Housing now lets players design a home from scratch, placing walls, windows and other structural pieces, or claim liberated castles and decorate them. Business management lets players lease facilities across Pywel, assign comrades and equipment, pick the goods to sell and set how each business runs to grow its profits.
For players who'd rather just fight, the Boss Gauntlet throws Pywel's strongest bosses at you one after another, while Kliff, Damiane and Oongka each get new story paths with old and new allies.
Seven months after launch, Kliff can now marry, run a business and ride an orca, though not, so far, all at once.
Crimson Desert's expansion costs $24.99. Which feature sells it?
