Mercenary life in Pywel just gained a maritime trade route and a real estate market. "The DLC brings new journeys across land and, for the first time, at sea, along with new ways to enrich your life in Pywel," Pearl Abyss community manager Petra wrote. Alongside the release, Xbox players can try the base game free for five hours through early January 2027.

The DLC follows the base game's March launch and August's free Version 2.00 update, which added new story moments and expanded voice-over and language support — that base game plus updates is now sold as Crimson Desert Enhanced.

The details

  • Released: October 29, 2026 (paid DLC)
  • Platforms: Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC, with Xbox Play Anywhere
  • Base game: Crimson Desert Enhanced, $69.99
  • Free trial: 5 hours of the base game for Xbox players, through early January 2027

What does Charting the Unknown add?

The DLC opens three new storylines following Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane after the fight for the Greymanes. It also takes the action off land for the first time: players build a ship, sail the Great Ocean of Pywel, and dive for underwater ruins, treasure chests, creatures, and new mounts.

On shore, the life-sim side grows considerably. An upgraded housing system lets players build a home from the ground up, controlling layout, walls, and windows. Liberated castles can be claimed as strongholds and decorated, and players can lease facilities like a smithy or restaurant, assign equipment and comrades, choose what to sell, and grow each business's recognition. Because nothing caps off a blood-soaked revenge campaign like balancing the books on a medieval side hustle.

Building trust with Pywel's residents can now lead to romance and marriage, and for those who'd rather fight than furnish, the Garden of Trials is a boss rush that pits players against previously defeated bosses back to back.

How does the free trial work?

Xbox players can sample up to five hours of the Crimson Desert base game without buying it. The trial runs from October 29 into early January 2027, giving prospective players two months to decide whether Pywel is worth the full price.

Why it matters

Pearl Abyss is treating Crimson Desert less like a finished single-player campaign and more like an evolving sandbox. Layering ocean travel, business management, and home building onto a combat-heavy action game tests whether life-sim systems can extend the tail of a big-budget fantasy title — and a five-hour trial is the studio's bet that new players will stay long enough to find out.
