Demon Slayer: The Hinokami Chronicles 2 Hits Switch 2 with Free Upgrade Pass

SEGA has launched Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, per its announcement, bringing a 60FPS framerate and higher-quality visuals to Nintendo's new hardware. In an industry where moving to new systems usually comes with a convenience fee, existing Switch owners can make the jump without opening their wallets again.

The update features "key improvements over the original Nintendo Switch version," SEGA says, led by the 60FPS target. The standard 2-player local and online VS Mode carries over with cross-gen play, so Switch and Switch 2 owners can still fight each other.

How the upgrade works

Anyone who owns The Hinokami Chronicles 2 on the original Switch — digital or physical cartridge — can move to the Switch 2 version at no additional cost via a free upgrade pass.

There is one line in the fine print: the "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle" Character Pass isn't included in the free upgrade and has to be bought separately on the Nintendo eShop. New buyers get the £34.99 Digital Standard Edition, which bundles the base game with the Academy Rengoku and Academy Uzui unlock keys.

Six million fighters served

The launch lands alongside a business milestone: the Hinokami Chronicles series, counting both games, has now sold more than six million units worldwide, SEGA confirmed.
