Solo developer Philipp Jensen's low-poly space horror brings affine texture warping, FMV cutscenes, and missing crew mysteries to modern hardware.
The short version
Visuwyg's retro sci-fi horror game Derelikt launches on PlayStation 5 on November 13, 2026. The solo-developed PSOne-style title takes place on an abandoned asteroid station near Saturn, combining retro FMV cutscenes and gunplay with resource management.

Solo developer Philipp Jensen and publisher Hyperstrange are bringing '90s-era space horror to modern hardware when Derelikt launches November 13 on PlayStation 5. Set aboard a dysfunctional mining outpost grafted onto an asteroid in Saturn's orbit, the project blends classic 32-bit visual quirks with modern puzzle-solving and survival mechanics.

"I set out to create the most faithful homage to 5th generation graphics available on the market," creator and art director Philipp Jensen said, noting the project has been in active development since late 2021.
The PSOne era gave us some of the most unsettling, atmosphere-heavy survival horror designs in gaming history—where low draw distances and warping textures weren't technical limitations so much as fuel for nightmares. Derelikt taps into that exact late-'90s energy, dropping players into a missing-crew investigation where ambient noise and untrustworthy survivors build the tension. If you've been tracking the revival of retro indie terror on current consoles—like Terrible Lizards—this project takes that 32-bit visual philosophy straight into deep space.
The details
Jensen built the visual presentation around 100% hand-painted textures, vertex color lighting, and deliberate affine texture warping. To emulate the high-end releases of the late 1990s without making the visuals feel primitive, geometry is dynamically subdivided in real time—a technique used by top-tier studios during the original PlayStation era.
The game also incorporates full-motion CGI cutscenes reminiscent of classic CD-ROM releases. For players who want the nostalgia without every retro constraint, the developer included a toggle menu to customize visual effects to individual taste.
Players step into the boots of an outside contractor hired to investigate Excavation Team Delta, a crew that disappeared from the surface of a mining outpost grafted to an anomalous asteroid. Upon arrival, condition aboard the station is critical: lights are failing, systems are breaking down, and a mysterious drone is driving the remaining crew to their breaking point.
Surviving the outpost requires balancing fast-paced gunplay with resource management, station exploration, dialogue, and traditional puzzle-solving. Over a dozen NPCs inhabit the station, each carrying their own secrets, agendas, and level of hostility. To stay alive, players can access traditional weaponry alongside prototype firearms and alien weapons discovered deep inside the facility.
Derelikt represents a growing movement among indie horror developers using authentic 5th-generation rendering techniques rather than simple pixel art to create atmospheric dread. By pairing genuine late-'90s visual pipeline constraints with modern performance and quality-of-life options, the title offers a hyper-specific throwback for horror fans looking for original hardware vibes on modern consoles.
