Bungie's unvaulting timeline puts full Destiny 2 content restoration in early 2028, rules out a Game Awards reveal, and teases Destiny Legacy and a mystery "Redacted" project.
The short version
Bungie says Destiny 2's unvaulting will be in pre-production until early 2027, then take about 12 months of production, putting completion in early 2028. Head of product Josh Deane also said there will be no Destiny announcement at The Game Awards, while Bungie teased Destiny Legacy and a "Redacted" project.

Bringing back Destiny 2's vaulted content is going to take a while. Bungie head of product Josh Deane said in an October 27 community update that pre-production on the unvaulting runs until January or February 2027, followed by roughly 12 months of production, per PC Gamer. That puts completion in early 2028, "assuming things go according to plan."
"We also know time isn't our friend; we're playing from behind with the cards we have," Deane wrote. He also told players not to expect a Destiny announcement at this year's The Game Awards: "We get there when we get there."
The details
The Destiny Content Vault pulled older campaigns, destinations, and activities out of Destiny 2 starting in 2020. Bungie's plan splits the restoration into three buckets: a First Pass of content it is committing to, Stretch Goals it will attempt, and a list of things that likely won't return. Deane called the moment "a true reset moment for Bungie, Marathon, and Destiny."
The update's "What's Next?" section named three anchors. Destiny 2 Celebration is a community event beyond Monument of Triumph, with a progress bar expected in February. Destiny Legacy came with the line "the whole experience needs to be served to you all where you play today," with more information due early 2027. The third is labeled only "Redacted," teased with "we're back."
Outlets have read Legacy as a hint that the original Destiny is finally coming to PC, where it has never released, and Redacted as a possible new game. Destructoid floated Destiny 3. Bungie confirmed neither. Fans have, of course, already started decoding a word that is literally designed not to be decoded.
Bungie's timeline means the vaulted content won't be fully back until early 2028 at the earliest, and the studio has ruled out a Destiny reveal at The Game Awards. Details on Destiny Legacy are due in early 2027.
