Blizzard Backtracks on Diablo 4's Unpopular Mythic Gear Limits

Watch

Blizzard has released a Diablo 4 hotfix that removes the restriction limiting players to equipping only one crafted-Mythic item at a time. It turns out that giving players powerful endgame loot and then telling them they can only wear one piece at a time is the digital equivalent of buying a sports car just to park it in the garage.

The update also walks back several other changes introduced in the Season of Death Awakening and boosts the drop rates for Mythic items overall. Blizzard acknowledged the swift negative feedback to the season's original design, writing in the patch notes that "not every idea lands exactly as intended." It is a candid admission that sometimes, the best way to keep a community happy is to hand back the keys to the toybox.

The details

  • Gear changes: The one-item limit on crafted-Mythic gear has been completely removed
  • Drop rates: Overall drop rates for Mythic items have been increased
  • Season context: Reverses multiple unpopular restrictions from the Season of Death Awakening

Why it matters

In live-service games, player sentiment is a fragile currency, and seasonal updates often walk a fine line between rewarding progression and creating artificial friction. By quickly reversing a highly unpopular gear limitation, Blizzard is prioritizing player goodwill during a critical seasonal window. When the community identifies a rule that makes the game less fun, a fast retreat is often the most effective strategy for keeping servers full.
