What it means for the meta
A bumpy launch for a legacy celebration, but players can now experience the throwback questline.
Diablo IV's Season of Hell's Legacy has officially launched, though players had to wait more than six hours past the scheduled time to actually play it. The major update, which celebrates the franchise's 30th anniversary, ran into severe server bottlenecks immediately upon its scheduled release. For a celebration of the series' history, starting with a classic server queue felt unexpectedly on-brand.
"We're aware of an issue preventing some players from accessing Diablo 4," the official Diablo account posted on X as errors 300006 and 300008 began flooding social media. The studio initially stated it was actively investigating the issue, but two hours later, the situation escalated. Blizzard posted another update confirming the season was officially delayed, leaving the entire game inaccessible for hours.
The details
The bottleneck began immediately at the scheduled launch time. After about four hours of downtime, Blizzard confirmed that login issues were resolved, although the studio had to temporarily disable certain game features to restore access. The season finally went live more than six hours after its planned start.
The timing coincided with players on the Switch 2 launching their version of Diablo IV, making the six-hour outage their introduction to the game.
The server trouble followed a major wave of announcements at BlizzCon 2026. Aside from the anniversary season, Blizzard revealed the returning Amazon class from Diablo II, scheduled to arrive in a paid pack during the first half of 2027. The studio also announced Diablo 5 for 2029 and confirmed a Netflix animated series is currently in development, but no release date has been announced.
Launching a live service season is always a balancing act, but celebrating a 30-year legacy with a locked front door is a stark reminder of the infrastructure required to keep modern Sanctuary online. For Blizzard, the focus now shifts to keeping the servers stable as players dive into the nostalgia-heavy content.
