Factorio 2.1, Wube's Last Major Update, Is Out Now

One last round of polish for the factory game that has never once gone on sale.

The short version

Wube Software released Factorio 2.1 in October 2026, the last major update it plans for the factory sim. It's a quality-of-life and polish update: rockets can carry multiple item types per launch, elevated rails can go over cargo bays and land mines can act as tripwires. Only minor bug-fix patches may follow.

What it means for the meta

Wube calls 2.1 its last major update; a few minor bug-fix patches may still arrive.

Wube Software has released Factorio 2.1, which it calls the last major update it plans to make for its factory-building sim, GamesRadar reports. It's a round of quality-of-life changes and polish rather than new systems, and a few minor bug-fix patches may still follow.

Highlights from the patch notes: rockets can now carry multiple different items in one launch, elevated rails can be built over cargo bays, and land mines can be used as tripwires and enemy detectors. Rock Paper Shotgun frames it as the things Wube wanted to do for 2.0 but didn't have time for.

Factorio signs off with more than 234,000 positive Steam reviews and a 98% rating, and Wube has never put it on sale, raising the price in 2023 to account for inflation instead. The studio said in 2025 it was "laying some groundwork for what our next project could look like."

The details

  • Update: Factorio 2.1, the last planned major update
  • Type: quality-of-life and polish
  • Examples: multi-item rocket launches; elevated rails over cargo bays; land mines as tripwires
  • After this: possible minor bug-fix patches only
  • Steam reviews: 234,000+ positive, 98%

The factory must grow. The update list, finally, doesn't.
