Final Fantasy VII Revelation: TGS Demo Reveals Vincent, Cid, and New Tactical Armor Details

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027, on PlayStation 5, marking the final entry in Square Enix's remake trilogy. The company showcased the title with a playable demo at Tokyo Game Show 2026, giving players their first hands-on experience with the game's updated combat and new party members. For a trilogy that has spent years stretching a 1997 classic into an epic, the finish line is officially on the calendar.

According to a hands-on report from the PlayStation Blog, the demo takes place in the Whirlwind Maze, where the party of eight pursues Sephiroth. The terrain requires parkour traversal and shimmying along cliff faces, because no legendary fantasy quest is complete without some light rock climbing. The segment focuses heavily on combat, introducing Vincent Valentine and Cid Highwind as fully playable characters, alongside a brand-new tactical gear system.

The details

  • Release date: April 8, 2027
  • Platform: PlayStation 5
  • New playable characters: Vincent Valentine, Cid Highwind
  • Major new mechanic: Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear (FITS)

How do Vincent and Cid fight?

Vincent operates as a hybrid ranged and melee fighter. Landing consecutive standard gunshots evolves his unique abilities from 'Blood Moon' to 'Execration' and then 'Retribution,' increasing his damage output. Alternatively, holding the R1 button transforms him into a beast that moves on all fours and slashes enemies with claws. The beast state is unlimited, though a rising 'Chaos level' steadily decreases his maximum HP—meaning players must balance raw power against a self-inflicted countdown.

Cid, meanwhile, dominates the air. Pressing the Square button at the exact moment he is cloaked in a blue aura triggers derivative moves like 'Dragon Spin,' 'Hyper Dive,' and 'Ground Pound' to sweep away groups of enemies. Players can also charge up to five spears with his 'Target Spear' ability, pinning targets to empower follow-up skills like 'Skydive' and 'Burst Spiral.'

What is the FITS System?

In addition to individual character moves, the demo introduced the Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear (FITS) system. Players choose from four specialized outfits—Warrior, Knight, Black Mage, and Summoner—to unlock different capabilities based on the equipped uniform.

In the demo, Cloud begins with the Summoner suit, which allows him to temporarily summon classic entities like Ifrit, Shiva, or Titan directly into battle from the command menu. Pressing the FITS button again while a summon is active triggers 'Pledge Roar,' a high-damage blast that comes at the cost of Cloud's own HP.

This high-risk tactical play becomes necessary deep in the maze, where players face a redesigned version of Jenova Deathmourner (also referred to as Jenova Death). The creature fires wide-area fire spells, later sprouting defensive tentacles that act as flamethrowers. Defeating the boss requires destroying the tentacles first, then using Synergy Abilities and Limit Breaks to finish the encounter.

With the release set for early 2027, players have roughly seven months to prepare for the final confrontation—or at least figure out how to manage Vincent's self-destructive health bar.
