Navigating a giant backyard was already a safety hazard, but a massive new expansion is forcing players to trade their hiking boots for scuba gear.

Obsidian has launched the "Into the Abyss" update for Grounded 2, introducing a massive underwater pond expansion and underwater base-building to the backyard survival game. It is the title's largest content drop to date, meaning players who thought they were safe on dry land now have a whole new list of phobias to manage.
The update is live now, the studio confirmed. For a game that has spent its lifespan turning everyday suburban pests into high-stakes boss fights, diving headfirst into the deep end is a natural, if damp, progression. Players can now construct fully functional bases directly beneath the water's surface, converting the pond from a scenic hazard into a flooded real estate opportunity.
To make the plunge survivable, the update introduces new diving gear alongside hostile aquatic creatures that would very much prefer you stayed on the lawn. Traversal also gets an upgrade with the introduction of craftable Ziplines to speed up travel across the broader map, and the "Toe Biter Nymph Buggy," a vehicle that answers the age-old question of what to do with a giant water bug.
The details
Whether players are looking to colonize the deep or just get from the porch to the sandbox a little faster, the backyard just got significantly more crowded. Just remember to pack extra oxygen.
