Obsidian Entertainment is expanding Grounded 2 this fall with the Rot and Ruin Update, introducing the new Woodpile adventure zone and a multi-legged Centipede boss, Senior Communications Manager Shyla Schofield announced on Monday. For players who thought backyard yardwork was already stressful enough, the update adds returning Termites, a rideable Potato Beetle Buggy, and base-painting tools to the survival title.

The update marks the latest content drop for the game while it sits in early availability ahead of its full release. According to Schofield, Grounded 2 currently sits at $29.99 in Xbox Game Preview across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, and Game Pass, alongside Steam Early Access and PlayStation 5, with Version 1.0 scheduled to arrive in 2027.
The details
The central feature of the Rot and Ruin update is the Woodpile, a new zone in Brookhollow Park built out of winding passages and rotting structures. The area brings back Termites in several flavors—Workers, Soldiers, and the Termite King—alongside new O.G.R.R. variants that exhibit altered attack patterns and uncharacteristic behaviors.
Deep inside the rotting timber sits the Centipede, a boss creature that Obsidian notes was among the community's most requested additions. To help navigate the extra danger, players can tame the Potato Beetle Buggy. Built larger than the existing Ladybug Buggy, the Potato Beetle serves as a close-combat mount capable of launching front-facing projectile sweeps, emitting a Healing Roar, and hauling structural materials to active building sites across the park.
Beyond combat, the Rot and Ruin Update introduces new crafting systems for both equipment and player shelters. Builders can construct paint and apply custom colors to walls, floors, roofs, stairs, and doors using a new paintball gun called the Splotcher.
Equipment progression also expands through a new resource called Bismuth, which is tied to the Raw Science found beneath Brookhollow Park. Players can process Bismuth at a new crafting station called the Yoking Press to raise weapons and armor into higher Tiers. The update further adds collectible miniatures, fresh SCA.B themes, and additional crafting stations throughout the park.
Maintaining a steady cadence of content drops is crucial for Early Access titles attempting to keep player activity stable ahead of a full launch. By delivering requested boss fights, mount variety, and cosmetic customization while pointing toward a 2027 Version 1.0 target, Obsidian is giving its player base concrete reasons to drop back into the dirt.
