Sega Amusements has teased a new installment in the House of the Dead series, scheduled for a full reveal at the IAAPA 2026 expo in November. It marks a virtual reality pivot for a franchise that helped define the classic light-gun era.

According to Arcade Heroes, which spotted a 30-second teaser trailer, the upcoming project utilizes VR technology and features controllers previously seen in Sega's 2022 coin-op cabinet VR Agent. Additional sleuthing on the Sega Amusements website uncovered a listing for House of the Dead Reawakened. The title was also referenced by Attractions Magazine, which reported the game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5.

According to the magazine, the physical cabinet features a themed façade, including an 85-inch display acting as a front door and two 43-inch vertical displays designed to look like shuttered windows. It is a highly theatrical setup for a game where players will spend their time with screens strapped directly over their eyes.

The details

  • Game title: House of the Dead Reawakened (according to Sega Amusements website listings)
  • Platform: Arcade VR cabinet
  • Game engine: Unreal Engine 5 (according to Attractions Magazine)
  • Reveal window: IAAPA 2026 in November

The main series has been quiet since 2018’s House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn, a notable gap for a franchise that debuted in 1997 alongside fellow coin-op titans like Time Crisis II. While the brand has previously branched out into typing games, console brawlers, and multiple feature films, Sega's latest experiment suggests the arcade remains its primary laboratory—even if players now have to wear a headset to enter.
