Aspyr has surprise-released a remastered "Legacy Edition" of The Lord of the Rings: War in the North on modern platforms and PC, according to the publisher's storefront listings. The unexpected drop brings the 2011 action RPG back to active duty without the usual multi-year marketing drumroll.
Originally developed by Snowblind Studios for the PlayStation 3, the title was a product of an era when co-op adventures were heavy on the hack-and-slash and light on live-service roadmaps. Aspyr's updated version is available immediately on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch, and PC, with compatibility confirmed for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.

In a landscape where game announcements are frequently preceded by teasers for upcoming teaser trailers, the sudden availability is a refreshing change of pace.
Sometimes, bypassing the red carpet entirely is the quietest way to make a loud entrance.
