Atlus has confirmed it is developing Persona 4 Revival, a full remake of the studio's classic RPG Persona 4 Golden. Following the design blueprint of Persona 3 Reload, the project promises to rebuild the small-town murder mystery from the ground up—meaning players can prepare to step through television screens all over again, though some of the voices on the other side will sound a bit different.
The developer, known for its sprawling RPGs like the recently pre-ordered Metaphor: ReFantazio, announced the project alongside a new character trailer showcasing Kanji Tatsumi's updated design and gameplay.
In the voice booth, Daman Mills is officially taking over as the voice of Kanji Tatsumi, replacing former voice actors Troy Baker and Matt Mercer. It is a major transition for one of the game's most prominent characters, though swapping out legendary voice talent is slowly becoming a standard feature of modern remakes.
Atlus also confirmed that the remake's narrative will see some structural adjustments. Specifically, the character Marie—originally introduced in the Golden expansion as a somewhat detached addition—will be integrated more naturally into the storyline from the very beginning.
The details
By weaving Marie into the narrative's foundation rather than grafting her onto the side, Atlus appears to be smoothing out the narrative bumps of the original expansion. For fans, it means a more cohesive trip to Inaba, even if adjusting to a new voice behind the folding chair takes a little time.
