Pokémon HOME is adding compatibility for Game Boy Advance classics Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen on October 7, 2026, allowing players to bridge their twenty-year-old retro squads into the modern ecosystem. For anyone who has kept a Charizard sitting on a plastic cartridge since 2004, the long custody battle with outdated hardware is officially over.
First reported by GoNintendo, the update lets trainers link the classic Game Boy Advance remakes—which originally remade Pokémon Red Version—directly to the cloud storage service. Once linked, any Pokémon caught in those titles can be migrated to HOME and sent onward to modern Switch games.
As a reward for dusting off the old cartridges, completing the FireRed or LeafGreen Pokédex unlocks a Mythical Celebi on the mobile version of Pokémon HOME. The app automatically registers any Pokémon already caught in the games once linked, meaning players do not have to manually trade their entire collection to claim the reward.
The update also introduces a few quality-of-life adjustments for active players. For the first time, trainers can transfer Pokémon caught with a Safari Ball in Pokémon GO. Additionally, the storage cap for Premium HOME subscribers is expanding from 6,000 to 9,000 slots, providing extra runway ahead of Pokémon Winds and Waves, the tenth-generation title scheduled for release next year on an unannounced date.
The details
Ultimately, the update turns a decades-old save file from a nostalgic relic into a live transfer queue, ensuring that those old pixelated companions aren't lost to the sands of battery-backup failures.
