Pokémon Pokopia Goes Under the Sea with Bubbly Basin DLC This August

The Pokémon Company will launch the paid Bubbly Basin expansion for Pokémon Pokopia on August 5, 2026, alongside a free version 2.0.0 update. For a cozy life-sim that has previously kept players firmly on dry land, the upcoming drop represents a sudden and damp career change.

According to the publisher, the simultaneous updates will transition the game from beachside strolls into a full-on deep-sea excursion. It is a significant shift for a title that, until now, treated the ocean mostly as a scenic boundary to be admired from the safety of the sand.

Taking the plunge

The free version 2.0.0 update introduces the "Dive" mechanic, the company said, which allows players to send Ditto beneath the waves. While exploring the ocean floor, the gelatinous pink mascot will have the opportunity to learn new behaviors directly from the mythical Pokémon Manaphy. It is a rare academic pursuit for a creature whose typical day-to-day routine consists of mimicking whatever is standing directly in front of it.

The paid Bubbly Basin expansion will launch on the same day, expanding the game's footprint into the deep blue with dedicated underwater areas. Planning a gaming schedule all the way out to the horizon is a bold move, akin to prepaying for a gym membership in February, but the developers appear confident in their swimming stamina.

The details

  • Bubbly Basin DLC release: August 5, 2026
  • Free Update 2.0.0: Launches August 5, 2026 (includes "Dive" mechanic)
  • Future content: Fashion accessory DLC (late 2026), new town expansion (2027)

The long horizon

The August update is only the first station on a rather lengthy track. The Pokémon Company also outlined a second paid DLC scheduled for late 2026, which will focus entirely on fashion accessories to dress up the local wildlife. Following that, players can expect a completely new town to arrive sometime in 2027.

It is a slow-drip content strategy that treats player attention less like a sprint and more like a long-term lease. For a genre that relies heavily on keeping players occupied, mapping out the next two years of updates is a clear signal that the virtual island isn't being abandoned anytime soon.

Why it matters

Cozy simulators thrive on routine, but they survive on the promise of something new to decorate. By laying out a roadmap that stretches into 2027, the developers are signaling that Pokopia is designed for the long haul. For players who have already tidied up every corner of their dry-land sanctuaries, a sudden dive into the ocean offers a brand-new set of chores—and in this genre, chores are the ultimate reward.
