Housemarque released the Zenith update for Saros today, October 19, 2026, delivering a major free patch packed with a boss rush mode, an expanded New Game+ system, and new accessibility toggles. For a game built around twitch reflexes and relentless bullet patterns, the option to dial down speed is less a menu setting than a peace offering.

The update is free to all existing owners of the game. According to Housemarque design lead Abebe Tinari, the studio designed the patch to serve two distinct groups at once. "We had two main goals for this update: add replayability for existing players who had already plumbed the depth of Carcosa, and make the game more accessible," Tinari said.
The details
The centerpiece for returning players is Overlord Rush, a arcade-style boss mode accessed through Passage's Primary Unit. The mode breaks into distinct subsets: 10-minute, three-boss runs called Incursion and Ascension, alongside Totality, a continuous gauntlet stringing together all eight of Carcosa’s main bosses. Integrated global leaderboards track clear times, allowing players to filter rankings down to their specific primary weapon of choice.
For players restarting their journey through Carcosa, the new "Eclipse Layers" system acts as the game’s New Game+ progression. Unlocked via Armor Matrix nodes after clearing the story, Eclipse Layers requires players to choose a minimum loadout of difficulty-raising Trial Modifiers before embarking. Accepting higher trial thresholds alters Arjun’s cosmetic appearance, adding a glowing effect to his armor and bestowing a golden Crown that grows larger with higher modifier levels. That Crown double-functions as a key, granting sight to 12 ancient king murals known as Visions hidden throughout the world.
To broaden the game's reach without stripping out its core combat identity, Housemarque added dedicated "Slow Game Speed" and "Auto-fire" features. The game speed setting lets players reduce the velocity of incoming enemy projectiles—either constantly or via automatic activation in combat—giving players extra frames to read attack telegraphs and execute dashes or parries.
Meanwhile, Auto-fire takes over primary shooting whenever an enemy enters the targeting reticle, reducing physical button strain while keeping reloading mechanics strictly manual. Tinari noted that manual input is still required for execution, stating that "a perfect reload still requires a well-timed button press."
Housemarque built its reputation on high-skill bullet-hell combat that demands tight timing and quick decision-making. By pairing end-game boss gauntlets and custom New Game+ layers alongside granular game-speed sliders, the Zenith update attempts a balance: offering veteran players higher ceilings while offering newcomers an entry point that doesn't immediately demand perfect reflexes.
