What it means for the meta

This brings Teardown's physics-driven demolition sandbox to online multiplayer for the first time on consoles, giving players both structured co-op and community-made party modes.

Teardown is bringing its signature voxel demolition to the group chat. Developer Tuxedo Labs has launched a free online multiplayer update for the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, turning what was once a solitary exercise in heavy machinery into a cooperative wrecking crew. Because nothing says bonding like collapsing a roof onto your coworkers.

"Tuxedo Labs is thrilled to release Teardown’s online multiplayer update on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S today, giving console players the chance to experience the game’s fully destructible world together for the first time," the studio said. The update is completely free for anyone who already owns the $29.99 (£24.99) base game.

For players who have spent the last year meticulously planning solitary heists, the update shifts the structural physics into shared spaces. Up to 12 players can join up to tackle the game's 40-mission co-op campaign, mess around in Sandbox Mode with unlimited resources, or knock each other through walls in competitive modes like Deathmatch and Capture the Flag.

The details

  • Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S
  • Co-op Campaign: Play the base game's 40 missions together
  • Competitive Modes: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, and Treasure Thieves
  • New Maps: Splitfield Estate and Cratertown
  • Mod Support: Over 40 updated mods from previous packs plus Mod Pack 6, which introduces 30 multiplayer-friendly community modes like Battle Royale, Vehicle Sumo, and Prop Hunt

Adding multiplayer to a highly reactive, physics-heavy voxel engine is no small engineering feat, which might explain why console players have had to wait to coordinate their demolition jobs. For players who have already flattened every structure the single-player game had to offer, the update provides a fresh set of reasons to dust off the sledgehammer—this time with friends to point out that you just pulled down the wrong load-bearing wall.
