Terranigma: Classic SNES RPG Gets £168 Gaia Collector's Edition and 2027 Release Date

Clear River Games has opened pre-orders for its upcoming Terranigma rerelease, headlined by a premium £168 "Gaia Edition" ahead of the game's multiplatform launch on January 14, 2027, the publisher announced. For a game that originally debuted on the Super Nintendo in 1995, receiving a three-figure deluxe edition three decades later is quite the slow-burn victory lap.

Developed by Quintet, the high-fantasy adventure originally struggled to find the spotlight at launch, shadowed by powerhouse franchises like The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy. Time, however, has been generous. Today, the game is considered among the SNES' finest RPGs by contemporary critics and players, who frequently highlight Kamui Fujiwara's visual designs and the evocative soundtrack. The game even features contributions from legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro, who recently admitted he had completely forgotten he worked on the game until 28 years later.

The upcoming rerelease isn't just a straight emulation. According to Clear River Games, the port will introduce an overhauled inventory system, rewind functions, save states, an on-screen mini-map, background customization, and a museum mode.

Whether the mechanical Yomi figure can help clean up actual bedroom clutter remains unconfirmed, but it will at least give dedicated physical collectors something tangible to put on the shelf in an increasingly digital landscape.
