Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Trailer Shows Off Remake Locations, 2027 Date

Crystal Dynamics, Flying Wild Hog, and publisher Amazon Game Studios debuted a new look at Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis during the series' 30th anniversary celebrations over the weekend. Reaffirming its February 12, 2027 release date, the preview offers a modernized view of the adventure that kicked off the franchise back on the Sega Saturn.

The original game debuted on Sega's short-lived 3D hardware in 1996 a month before reaching PlayStation and PC. Rather than delivering a strict pixel-for-pixel translation, the development team is pairing updated graphical detail with mechanical tweaks like skill trees, crafting, and time-manipulation abilities.

"When you're taking damage, dealing damage, dodging attacks, you're building your Focus meter," game director Raul Siquera explained this summer. "Focus allows you to slow down time around you and showcase some of the things that Lara used to do in 1996." Building that meter gives players access to Croft's classic mid-combat acrobatics.

The footage presented at the TR30 Derby and MCM London highlighted the remake's four primary destinations: Peru, Greece, Egypt, and Atlantis. Key set pieces made an appearance, including the giant Atlas puzzle, encounters with Atlantean creatures, and the hazard of stepping onto the hand of King Midas' statue to turn Lara into solid gold.

While Lara sports her standard blue tank top and shorts in the primary game, players who pre-order receive her costume from the Survivor trilogy. For those who can't wait until the official launch day, the Deluxe and Collector's editions grant two days of early access.

What comes next for the franchise

Legacy of Atlantis is only half of the studio's current slate. Crystal Dynamics is simultaneously working on Tomb Raider: Catalyst, a separate release expected to be in 2028, or within the 2027/2028 fiscal year. Set in Northern India following a mythical disaster, Catalyst promises a brand-new story focused on ancient secrets and mysterious guardians. Between the remake and a fresh storyline, the franchise is doubling down on its anniversary window.
