Lara Croft is going back to her roots, but she is bringing a modern leveling guide with her. Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics released a new trailer for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, revealing that the upcoming reimagining of the 1996 classic is injecting full-blown RPG mechanics into the ancient ruins. The game is scheduled to be released on February 12, 2027. Because apparently, even the 1990s need a progression loop now.

The remake, which is being developed by Flying Wild Hog, aims to update the original formula for contemporary standards. According to the trailer, players can expect skill trees, herb brewing, and a chargeable focus meter alongside the traditional exploration. It is a dramatic shift for a game that originally required nothing more than precise grid-based jumping and a pair of dual pistols.

The combat is also getting an overhaul. Flying Wild Hog says the new system is specifically designed to emphasize Lara’s classic PlayStation 1-era acrobatics, blending retro flips with modern targeting. Instead of just dodging wolves, players will now be tracking focus meters while mixing up a batch of healing tea in the inventory screen.

The details

  • Developer: Flying Wild Hog
  • Publishers: Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics
  • New features: Skill trees, herb brewing, chargeable focus meter
  • Combat focus: Updated system emphasizing classic PS1-era acrobatics

Survival in the Peruvian caves used to depend on timing; now, it seems, it also depends on choosing the right passive stat buff.
