Ubisoft launched a free update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla today, Nov. 5, 2026, bringing New Game+ and upgraded PlayStation 5 Pro features to the Viking epic. Honestly, returning to the foggy, haunted hills of 9th-century England with a fully stacked Eivor is exactly the kind of brooding dark-fantasy trip I need right now.

The patch, officially titled "The Most Requested Update," focuses on performance upgrades and long-awaited quality-of-life additions for players on PS5 and PS5 Pro. "It was about integrating the upgraded PSSR into the game, to have better graphics when upscaling at a better framerate," Priscilla Nguyen, Engineering Studio Manager at Ubisoft, said regarding the console-specific optimizations. Nguyen noted that the upgraded PSSR pipeline allows the game to deliver 4K image quality at 60FPS on PS5 Pro hardware.
Valhalla originally debuted years before the PS5 Pro existed, making this targeted technical patch a notable effort to modernize older open-world titles. By incorporating the same upscaling tech recently deployed in Assassin's Creed Shadows and Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, Ubisoft is ensuring its vast English wilderness keeps pace with current visual standards.
The details
For PS5 Pro owners, the centerpiece of the update is the integration of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). According to Nguyen, the upgraded PSSR model is more efficient and easier to implement than the engine's previous Temporal Upscaler, producing a crisp, visually stable image across England's sprawling forests and icy highlands. Rather than reworking raw visual assets, Ubisoft integrated the new upscaler directly into its existing rendering pipeline to boost clarity without compromising frame rates.
Beyond the technical uplift, the update fulfills a long-standing community wish list item by introducing NEW GAME PLUS. Players can dive back into early-game story arcs while retaining their end-game arsenal. The patch also introduces cross-promotional content with the Master Assassin Naoe outfit, letting players stalk through Saxon fortresses in style.
The update highlights Ubisoft's strategy of backporting new engine tech into flagship catalog games to keep older titles visually competitive on high-end consoles. For players, it provides a seamless excuse to step back into Eivor's boots and conquer ancient kingdoms all over again.
