Cyberpunk 2077 Edgerunners 2 Update Drops With Dual Wielding and Mod Support

CD Projekt Red released the free Edgerunners 2 Update for Cyberpunk 2077 on Thursday, October 22, introducing dual-wielding sidearms, cross-platform mod support, and a prequel mission tied to the newly premiered Netflix series. For an RPG whose major post-launch content was thought to be wrapped up, Night City continues to resist staying quiet.

"We’ve got a lot to cover, so let’s get into it," CD Projekt Red PR manager Joao De Mello wrote in the studio's announcement.

The content drop follows the October 20 premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix. Beyond anime tie-ins, the update fulfills multiple long-standing community feature requests while expanding system capabilities, building on combat alterations originally introduced in earlier game updates.

What is included in the Edgerunners 2 Update?

Combat receives its biggest mechanical shift since Update 2.0 introduced throwing weapons. Players can now dual-wield sidearms, equipping a pistol or revolver in each hand during firefights.

Narratively, the patch adds a fresh gig assigned by Wakako that leads V to a new location, Night City Prison. The mission acts as a prequel to the Edgerunners 2 anime, pairing V with mercenary Weak Kingsley. Completing the gig unlocks Weak's complete attire, his signature revolver Coronation, and radio station HKGN 102.FM, which broadcasts tracks from both anime seasons.

Visual customization also gets an overhaul through five Glamdoc vendors established across the city. These vendors sell 40 cosmetic variations for equipped cyberware. The update adds 20 new hairstyles, 12 minor arcana tarot cards scattered throughout the world, and audio-guided Night City Tours narrated by city founder Richard Night.

What quality-of-life updates arrived?

Systemically, CD Projekt Red integrated mod.io directly into the game via a dedicated Mods panel, enabling players to browse and install community-created content across platforms. Item storage now features category filters for V's stash, and the menu system now divides saved games into separate libraries for individual character builds.

On the platform side, digital copies of the game now support Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing single-purchase cross-play and cross-progression between Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC. The studio noted that legacy Xbox One consoles remain capped at Update 1.6 from November 2022 and do not support post-2022 patches or the Phantom Liberty expansion.
