DOOM: The Dark Ages Gets Permanent Price Drop on Xbox Store

Bethesda has officially marked down the digital version of DOOM: The Dark Ages, permanently lowering the price of the base game on Xbox to $49.99 (£44.99). For a major release, a permanent reduction in the base MSRP is a quiet departure from the usual strategy of keeping prices locked high until the next console generation.

"DOOM: The Dark Ages just got a permanent discount," the official franchise account announced on Monday. The price drop represents a 28.58% reduction in the US and a 35.72% cut in the UK from its original $69.99 (£69.99) tier. The Deluxe Edition has also been permanently marked down to $69.99 (£60.99).

The pricing adjustment arrives during a transition period for developer id Software, which has navigated recent studio job cuts even as its first major expansion, Revelations, launched to critical praise, holding a Metacritic score of 91.
